Thank you for your request for information, this has now been processed and the information that we hold is enclosed.

I would like to know:

  1. The amount of waste local authorities collected in tonnes, broken down by recycling and non-recycling.

East Herts Council submit these details to Wastedata flow and the information can be statistics will be published here - https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/waste-and-recycling-statistics

  1. If the local authority exported waste to China during the years listed, how many tonnes of waste was exported to China and how much of the waste in tonnes was recycling and non-recycling?

As detailed in the link above we can confirm that no waste collected by this authority was exported to China

  1. The distance in miles collected waste is transported to recycling centre, landfill, incinerators etc. and what proportion of waste is transported to those different places.

100% of residual waste is transported to Westmill Land fill site. Waste is collected from properties across the whole district so it is not possible to identify the distance. The landfill site is in the district.

100 % of garden waste and food is transported to Cumberlow Green again this is a direct delivery just outside the district so miles cannot be provided.

100 % paper is bulked at the depot in Buntingford where it is then transported to Kings Lynn 71 miles.

100% of co-mingled material is bulked a the depot in Buntingford and then transported to the reprocessor which for 15/16 was Pearce in St Albans 25 miles and 16/17 was Biffa in Edmonton 27 miles.

If you have any queries or complaint about the processing of your request please do not hesitate to contact me.
