East Herts Council Response

24 August 2020

Thank you for your request for information, this has now been processed and the information that we hold is enclosed.

I am writing to make an open government request for all the information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I would be grateful for any information you have on the following:

i) The number of individual payments and total sum paid specifically to charities and not for profit organisations between 24th March to 28th July 2020 under the following schemes:

  • Small Business Grants Fund (SBGF) scheme
  • Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Business Grants Fund (RHLGF)
  • Local Authority Discretionary Grants Fund

Because of the nature of how applications for the above are recieved and processed it is not possible to isolate every single case that will be attributed to a charity without a manual search of each application which would go above the time limits put in place by the act. However from searchable data that is available we have paid out £1,024,000 in grants to registered charities and this was for 82 cases

ii) A copy of (or link to)  the form and any associated application guidance  required to be used for the application of the above

All our published documentation is available vai thais page

https://www.eastherts.gov.uk/coronavirus/coronavirus-and-businesses-0

iii) The number of total applications made to each scheme, and the total number rejected for each scheme

Again due to the way data is recieved and processed exact figures are not available We estimated we would pay out 1750 small business grants but have paid out 1689, this will be due to business not being entitled because they may have moved out, not wanting to claim grant. For retail we estimated 575 and we have paid out 565, again difference may be to change of occupier, moving out  or not wanting to claim grant. The recorded rejections for EH were 121

iiii) The number of total applications made by charities and not for profit organisations to each scheme, and the total number rejected for each scheme

We do not have any additional data other than that provided for Q 1

v) If the council has during the period of 24th March - 28th July created or contributed to any other COVID grant or loan schemes to the local community, voluntary and social enterprise sector. The total sum of the contribution and the total number of recipient organisations
