Customer Request Details

01 June 2021

East Herts operates an online mapping service at http://maps.eastherts.gov.uk/eGGP2009/eGGP.aspx?scriptname=PLANNING&scale=1000.

This includes historic maps of the area, usually in 10-20 year periods, from the 1940s through to the 80s. Many of these maps include hand written annotations. These normally take the form of a 2-3 digits and then what appears to be a year e.g. "232-59" and "123-61".

Can you please confirm what these references pertain to, for example do they relate to transactions, rate reviews, planning consents etc? Which department holds information in relation to these references and are they underlying files available for public inspection?

East Herts Council Response

04 June 2021

Thank you for your request for information, this has now been processed and the information that we hold is enclosed.

The historic maps on the Online Mapping system contain very old planning references. Some of these are on Microfiche but Eastherts Council did not exist until after 1974 so they are whatever the previous Councils handed over. The last 2 numbers are the year.

If you have any queries or complaint about the processing of your request please do not hesitate to contact me.
